A MATTER OF TRUST
Grandmaster Kirby appointed me to the position of Hanshi of Satori-Ryu Iaido which included promotion to Hachi-Dan (8th Degree Black Belt). Hanshi is awarded to an Instructor who is considered to demonstrate an excellent example for the younger students and Instructors in both performance and in behavior. A Hanshi is expected to be a “teacher of teachers” and to be completely trustworthy. I have spent many hours in discussion with Grandmaster Kirby in which he has detailed his wishes for the future of Satori-Ryu Iaido and more importantly, his trust in me to carry out those wishes. Being Hanshi is about Leadership and the dedication to continuing the ideals and standards established by those who came before you. I intend to fulfill that trust.
